CE marking
Based on the Treaty establishing the European Economic Community (EEC), in particular Article 100, EC directives were issued by the Council of the European Community. These EC directives serve to harmonize the legal and administrative provisions in the various member states of the European Union (EU) when differences in national regulations result in trade barriers or otherwise hinder the functions of the EU internal market. The guidelines must be implemented by the national legislature into the respective national law within specified deadlines. The manufacturer must affix the CE marking as a sign of conformity to products that fall within the scope of certain EC directives. This affects products that are covered by guidelines according to the “New Concept” (decided on May 7, 1985), which contain requirements for the technical properties of products.

EC directives are binding legal regulations of the European Union. This means that meeting these requirements is a condition for marketing the products in Europe. The rest of the global trading market is not affected. Affixing the CE marking confirms that the products comply with the corresponding basic requirements of all relevant (applicable) directives for the product. The CE marking is intended solely for the monitoring authorities as proof of directive conformity. However, it is often misinterpreted as a “sign of quality”. This is why, unfortunately, it is often requested without a legal basis. Our company therefore refrains from displaying the CE mark in advertising on our catalog and brochure pages, as the CE marking of the products fulfills a purely legal function and must be adhered to by all manufacturers or importers. Although the manufacturer’s EC declaration of conformity must only be kept available to the monitoring authorities (at least for 10 years after it was last placed on the market), corresponding copies can be requested from us upon customer request. Which guidelines apply can be found in the EC declaration of conformity for the respective product. The guidelines most commonly applied to our company’s product range are:
1. Low Voltage Directive (2006/95/EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council of December 12, 2006 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to electrical equipment for use within certain voltage limits. Almost all products in our production range fall within the scope of this low voltage directive.
2. EMC Directive (2004/108/EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council of December 15, 2004 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to electromagnetic compatibility and repealing Directive 89/336/EEC.
Almost all products in product groups C and D of our production program fall within the scope of this EMC guideline.
